The CC 8S proved Koenigsegg could build an extraordinary road car; the CC R pushed that idea toward a much more uncompromising machine. Developed with track performance in mind, it traded some of the earlier car’s restraint for more power, less weight and a larger aerodynamic presence. The fixed roof and aggressive rear wing signaled its purpose, while the mid-mounted engine kept the car centered around balance and traction. With only a handful produced, the CC R represents one of the earliest steps toward the extreme limited-production philosophy that later became central to Koenigsegg.
For 2004–2006, the CC R uses a supercharged 4.7-liter V8 producing 806 hp and 678 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a claimed 242-mph top speed. The combination of enormous power and a lightweight carbon-fiber structure made the CC R a major performance escalation over the earlier CC 8S.
