Koenigsegg’s CCXR arrived when alternative fuels were rarely associated with extreme performance, yet the Swedish manufacturer used ethanol’s higher octane potential to make its already formidable CCX even more powerful. The result was not an efficiency exercise in the conventional sense, but a technical experiment showing that renewable fuel could coexist with supercar performance. Its detachable hardtop, carbon-fiber construction and rear-mid-engine layout kept the car rooted in Koenigsegg’s lightweight philosophy, while the flex-fuel system gave the CCXR a distinctive place in the marque’s history.
The 2007–2010 CCXR uses a supercharged 4.7-liter V8 producing 1,018 hp and 782 lb-ft of torque on E85 or E100. A six-speed transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 3.0 seconds and 0–62 mph requiring 3.1 seconds. Koenigsegg estimated a top speed above 250 mph, making the CCXR one of the most extreme flex-fuel performance cars of its era.
