The Proton Satria Neo 1.6 introduced a fresh design to Proton’s compact hatchback range, replacing the earlier Satria with a more contemporary shape and a dedicated platform. Its rounded bodywork, distinctive headlamps, and three-door layout gave it a modern appearance, while the compact dimensions suited urban driving. Developed with attention to chassis balance, the Satria Neo combined everyday usability with an engaging road character. Front-wheel drive kept the mechanical layout familiar, and the rear hatch provided access to the luggage area for daily essentials. The 1.6-litre version offered stronger performance than the entry-level model while retaining the practicality of a small hatchback.
For the 2006–2009 range, power came from a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre, 16-valve DOHC inline-four producing 111 hp at 6,000 rpm and 109 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission sent power to the front wheels. With a top speed of 118 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 11.1 seconds, the Satria Neo 1.6 delivered balanced performance for a compact hatchback. Its three-door body, five-seat cabin, and 9.1 cubic feet of luggage capacity offered everyday flexibility, while MacPherson-strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension supported its handling.
