The Pontiac Solstice GXP transformed Pontiac’s compact roadster into a more serious performance machine, retaining its low, sculpted body while adding the power needed to challenge established sports cars. Its long hood, short rear deck, and wide stance give it classic roadster proportions, while the snug two-seat cockpit keeps the driver close to the action. Unlike larger American performance cars built around substantial V8 engines, the GXP takes a different route, using turbocharged four-cylinder power in a lightweight, rear-drive package. This combination gives it a distinctive place among American sports cars of the late 2000s.
For 2007–2009, the Solstice GXP uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 260 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Power reaches the rear wheels through a five-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission, giving drivers a choice between greater involvement and convenience. Its reported 0–60 mph time of 5.6 seconds reflects the punchy response of the turbocharged engine. With its compact dimensions and focused two-seat layout, the GXP delivers an engaging alternative to larger, heavier performance cars.
