The RUF CTR 3 marked a major departure from the traditional Porsche 911-based sports cars associated with RUF, introducing a bespoke mid-engine platform designed for exceptional performance. Its low, wide coupé body features sculpted surfaces and purposeful proportions that accommodate the unconventional powertrain layout while giving the car a distinctive supercar presence. The rear-mid-engine configuration sets it apart from earlier rear-engine CTR models, while the two-seat cockpit maintains a driver-focused character. Combining German engineering expertise with a specialised chassis and extensive turbocharged performance, the CTR 3 represents RUF's ambition to compete with the world's most capable supercars.
Produced from 2007 to 2012, the CTR 3 uses a 3.7-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six petrol engine producing 690 hp and 656 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels, while MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension support its handling. With a reported 0–60 mph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 233 mph, it delivers exceptional performance for a road-going supercar. Its rear-mid-engine layout, substantial turbocharged output and bespoke chassis distinguish it from RUF's earlier Porsche-derived models.
