Infiniti took a different route with the QX50 3.0d, giving its compact luxury crossover a diesel heart while retaining the low, sporty proportions of the model. The result was a vehicle aimed as much at long-distance drivers as it was at urban crossover buyers. Its diesel V6 brought a deep reserve of torque to the QX50, making the compact SUV feel more substantial under acceleration and giving it an effortless character on faster roads. This combination of compact dimensions and a strong diesel engine made the QX50 3.0d an unusual member of Infiniti’s range.
The turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 produces 235 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, with peak torque arriving at 1,750 rpm. A seven-speed automatic transmission sends power through all four wheels, and the QX50 reaches 135 mph. The 7.9-second 0–60 mph time gives it respectable pace, while the diesel’s abundant low-end torque is particularly useful for overtaking and sustained highway cruising.
