The Smart EQ forfour is a compact electric hatchback designed to make urban travel simple and practical. Its five-door body and four-seat cabin offer everyday versatility within a small footprint, while the rear luggage compartment expands from 6.5 to 34.4 cubic feet to accommodate shopping and daily essentials. A rear-mounted electric motor drives the rear wheels, giving the car a distinctive layout compared with many small hatchbacks. Quiet operation and zero tailpipe emissions make it well suited to city commuting, short journeys, and drivers who want an electric car that is easy to manoeuvre and park.
For the 2020–2021 model range, the EQ forfour uses a 60 kW electric motor producing 81 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque, paired with a single-speed direct-drive transmission. AutoSpecsHub lists a top speed of 81 mph and acceleration from 0–60 mph in 12.3 seconds. Its 17.2 kWh battery is associated with a listed range of 73 miles and energy consumption of 23.5 kWh per 100 miles, equivalent to 143.4 MPGe. MacPherson strut front suspension, a De Dion rear axle, front disc brakes, and rear drum brakes complete the chassis setup.
