The Caterham Seven 170 takes the lightweight formula to an especially minimalist level, using a turbocharged 660cc inline-three gasoline engine producing 84 hp and 86 lb-ft of torque. Its rear-wheel-drive layout and 5-speed manual transmission deliver a 6.9-second 0–60 mph time and 100-mph top speed, while a remarkably low 970-pound curb weight gives the roadster an 11.55 lb/hp power-to-weight ratio. The compact Suzuki-sourced engine keeps the Seven 170 focused on low mass and responsive performance rather than outright power.
The 2021–2026 sports roadster uses double-wishbone front suspension and a DeDion rear axle, complemented by solid disc brakes and 155/65R14 front and 185/60R14 rear tyres. Two seats and 4.2 ft³ of luggage capacity provide basic usability, while its compact dimensions reinforce the lightweight concept. Measuring 125.2 inches long with an 87.6-inch wheelbase, the Seven 170 is 57.9 inches wide and 42.9 inches high. Its front-mid-mounted, longitudinal engine and exceptionally low weight make it one of the most stripped-back ways to experience Caterham’s driver-focused roadster formula.
