The Audi V8 3.6 represented Audi’s entry into the upper-luxury sedan market with a restrained design and sophisticated mechanical package. Spanning 1991–1994, it paired a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V8 with quattro all-wheel drive, producing 247 hp and 251 lb-ft. A choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions gave the large sedan different personalities, while its 152-mph top speed and 8.6-second 0–60 mph time provided respectable performance for a luxury car of its era.
Beneath the understated exterior, the V8 featured a longitudinal engine, MacPherson-strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, with ventilated discs at both axles. The five-seat cabin and 21.5-cubic-foot trunk reinforced its executive-car purpose, while the permanent all-wheel-drive system gave it an important technical distinction from many contemporary luxury rivals. Rather than chasing visual extravagance, Audi used the V8 to demonstrate how discreet styling, sophisticated drivetrain engineering and strong everyday usability could coexist in a flagship sedan.
