1991–1992 Austin Montego Turbo Specs & Performance

The Montego Turbo transformed Austin’s family saloon into a surprisingly capable performance car, pairing a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission. Producing 150 hp and 172 lb-ft, it could reach 126 mph and accelerate from 0–60 mph in 7.1 seconds. The combination gave the otherwise practical saloon a distinctly more energetic character without abandoning its conventional front-wheel-drive layout.

The 1991–1992 model retained the Montego’s spacious four-door body and five-seat cabin, with 18.4 ft³ of luggage capacity and a 2,447-pound curb weight. MacPherson struts at the front and trailing-arm rear suspension were paired with front disc and rear drum brakes, while the turbocharged engine used a carburetor and SOHC eight-valve head. It was an unusual blend of family-car practicality and genuine performance for its period.
