The Montego 2.0 DLX, DSLX was aimed at drivers who valued economical long-distance motoring over outright performance. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline-four produced 80 hp and 117 lb-ft, sending power through a five-speed manual transmission to the front wheels. A 102 mph top speed and 12.1-second 0–60 mph time made it a relaxed rather than sporty saloon, while the diesel powertrain prioritized fuel efficiency.
The 1991–1993 model retained the Montego’s spacious four-door layout, with five seats and 18.4 ft³ of luggage capacity. MacPherson struts at the front and trailing-arm rear suspension kept the chassis conventional, while disc front brakes and rear drums provided simple stopping hardware. At 2,502 pounds, the car combined useful cabin space with a notably economical diesel engine, making it well suited to practical everyday and longer-distance use.
