The Rover 100 114 GTi gave Rover’s compact hatchback range a more sporting character, combining a practical three-door body with a lively 16-valve engine and purposeful proportions. Its compact dimensions, upright front styling, and subtle GTi details distinguished it from the more modest versions in the 100 series. The five-seat cabin and rear hatch preserved everyday usability, while the lightweight construction and front-wheel-drive layout suited drivers who valued responsive performance in a small car. Rather than relying on extravagant styling, the 114 GTi paired understated British design with a more energetic mechanical package.
For the 1993–1995 range, the Rover 100 114 GTi used a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre DOHC 16-valve inline-four petrol engine producing 102 hp at 6,000 rpm and 94 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. A five-speed manual transmission delivered power to the front wheels. The chassis specification listed by AutoSpecsHub includes MacPherson strut front suspension and trailing-arm rear suspension, with solid front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. This combination gave the compact hatchback a straightforward, driver-focused character while retaining the practicality needed for everyday use.
