The Rover 100 114 Cabrio brought open-air motoring to Rover’s compact 100 series, combining the familiar proportions of a small British car with a folding fabric roof. Its short body, compact footprint, and simple styling suited urban driving, while the convertible layout gave it a more leisure-oriented character than the standard hatchback. With seating for four and a separate luggage compartment, it retained a degree of everyday practicality alongside its open-top appeal. Produced in limited numbers and available to special order, the Cabrio offered a distinctive alternative to conventional small cars of the mid-1990s.
For the 1995–1997 range, the Rover 100 114 Cabrio used a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre K-Series inline-four petrol engine with a single overhead camshaft and eight valves. It produced 74 hp at 5,500 rpm and 86 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. A five-speed manual transmission sent power to the front wheels. MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion-beam rear setup supported predictable handling, while front disc brakes and rear drum brakes provided braking appropriate to its lightweight construction. Its modest power and compact dimensions favoured relaxed cruising over outright performance.
