The Saab 9-3 Cabrio 2.0i brought understated Scandinavian styling to open-top motoring, combining the familiar proportions of the 9-3 with the relaxed character of a folding-roof convertible. Its clean exterior and four-seat cabin made it suitable for everyday journeys as well as leisurely drives, while the front-wheel-drive layout kept the mechanical package straightforward. Unlike the turbocharged versions in the range, the naturally aspirated model focused on predictable performance and practical usability. It offered a distinctive alternative for drivers who valued open-air driving and Saab’s individual engineering approach without needing a high-performance engine.
For the 1998–2001 range, power came from a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre, 16-valve inline-four producing 128 hp at 6,100 rpm and 131 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 rpm. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission sent power to the front wheels. With a reported 0–60 mph time of 10.6 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph, the Cabrio 2.0i prioritised everyday usability over rapid acceleration. Its four-seat cabin and 10.4–13.3-cubic-foot luggage capacity added practical flexibility for commuting and weekend trips.
