2000, 2001, 2002
MSRP:$3,500 – $7,500
The Saab 9-3 2.0 Turbo S combined understated Scandinavian styling with the flexible performance of a turbocharged petrol engine. Its five-door fastback body gave it a practical character, offering easier access to the rear cabin and useful cargo space without the bulk of a larger family car. The restrained exterior reflected Saab’s engineering-led approach, while the turbocharged engine provided stronger performance than the naturally aspirated versions in the range. With front-wheel drive and seating for five, the Turbo S balanced everyday usability with the added responsiveness expected from a performance-oriented Saab.
For the 2000–2002 range, power came from a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 16-valve inline-four producing 202 hp at 5,500 rpm and 207 lb-ft of torque at 2,200 rpm. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission sent power to the front wheels. With a reported 0–60 mph time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 146 mph, the 9-3 2.0 Turbo S offered brisk performance while retaining practical five-seat accommodation and 17.4–46.4 cubic feet of luggage capacity.
