The Rover 100 114 represented the practical side of Rover’s compact hatchback range, combining modest proportions with a straightforward design suited to everyday motoring. Its short body, upright front styling, and three-door layout made it easy to manoeuvre in urban settings, while the five-seat cabin and rear hatch offered useful versatility for a small car. Derived from the Metro lineage, the Rover 100 retained a familiar British small-car character, prioritising accessibility and functionality over sporting extras. Its lightweight construction and compact footprint made it a sensible choice for drivers seeking uncomplicated transport.
For the 1993–1994 range, the Rover 100 114 used a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre inline-four petrol engine with a single overhead camshaft, eight valves, and single-point fuel injection. It produced 74 hp at 5,500 rpm and 86 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. A five-speed manual transmission delivered power to the front wheels. MacPherson strut front suspension and trailing-arm rear suspension supported predictable handling, while solid front disc brakes and rear drum brakes provided braking appropriate to its size and performance. Its modest output and compact dimensions suited commuting and routine local journeys.
