The Smart Fortwo cabrio & passion combines the compact proportions of a city car with the appeal of open-top driving. Its retractable soft roof lets occupants enjoy fresh air while the tiny body makes navigating narrow streets and parking in tight spaces straightforward. The two-seat cabin keeps the focus on personal urban transport, and the rear-mounted engine with rear-wheel drive gives this small convertible a distinctive mechanical layout. With just 5.3 cubic feet of luggage space, it is best suited to city errands and relaxed drives with light baggage rather than journeys that require substantial carrying capacity.
For the 2001–2003 model range, the Fortwo cabrio & passion uses a turbocharged 599 cc inline-three petrol engine with a single overhead camshaft, six valves, and multi-point fuel injection. It produces 60 hp at 5,250 rpm and 65 lb-ft of torque at 2,250 rpm, paired with a six-speed sequential automated manual transmission that also offers an automatic mode. Power goes to the rear wheels. AutoSpecsHub lists a top speed of 84 mph and 0–60 mph acceleration in 16.3 seconds. Combined fuel economy is rated at 47 US mpg, with a listed range of 273 miles. MacPherson strut front suspension, a De Dion rear axle, front disc brakes, and rear drum brakes complete the chassis setup.
