The Smart Fortwo cabrio BRABUS combines the tiny footprint of a two-seat city car with the freedom of open-top motoring. Its retractable soft roof adds a convertible character to a design made for narrow streets and tight parking spaces, while the BRABUS treatment gives this compact model a more distinctive, sport-oriented identity. The rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive layout set it apart from conventional small convertibles, and its two-seat cabin keeps the focus on driver and passenger rather than carrying capacity. With just 5.3 cubic feet of luggage space, it is best suited to urban journeys and relaxed drives with light baggage.
For the 2005–2006 model range, the Fortwo cabrio BRABUS is powered by a turbocharged 698 cc inline-three petrol engine with a single overhead camshaft, six valves, and multi-point fuel injection. It produces 74 hp at 5,250 rpm and 81 lb-ft of torque at 2,500 rpm. A six-speed automated manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels. AutoSpecsHub lists a top speed of 93 mph and 0–60 mph acceleration in 11.9 seconds. Combined fuel economy is rated at 44.4 US mpg, with a listed range of 386 miles. MacPherson strut front suspension, a De Dion rear axle, front disc brakes, and rear drum brakes complete the chassis setup.
