The Smart Fortwo cabrio cdi & pure combines the compact footprint of a two-seat city car with the enjoyment of open-top driving. Its retractable roof brings a convertible character to a design made for narrow streets and tight parking spaces, while the small cabin and 5.3-cubic-foot luggage compartment suit everyday errands and light travel. A rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive layout give this micro-convertible a distinctive mechanical arrangement. Rather than prioritising speed or carrying capacity, the Fortwo cabrio cdi & pure focuses on compact urban mobility, easy manoeuvrability, and the efficiency of a small diesel powertrain.
For the 2003–2006 model range, the Fortwo cabrio cdi & pure uses a turbocharged 799 cc inline-three diesel engine with a single overhead camshaft, six valves, and common-rail fuel injection. It produces 40 hp at 4,200 rpm and 74 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm, paired with a six-speed sequential automated manual transmission driving the rear wheels. AutoSpecsHub lists a top speed of 84 mph and 0–60 mph acceleration in 19.2 seconds. The site displays combined fuel economy of 69.2 mpg and a driving range of 402 miles. MacPherson strut front suspension, a De Dion rear axle, front disc brakes, and rear drum brakes complete its chassis setup.
