The Proton Satria 1.8 brought a more performance-oriented character to Proton’s compact hatchback range, combining a short three-door body with a naturally aspirated engine and front-wheel-drive layout. Its compact proportions made it easy to manoeuvre in urban settings, while the hatchback design provided useful flexibility for carrying everyday luggage. The Satria’s straightforward styling and functional cabin kept it practical for daily use, but its responsive engine and chassis setup gave it a livelier character than an ordinary economy hatchback. It offered drivers a balance of compact-car convenience and engaging performance without the complexity of a larger sports car.
For the 2002–2006 range, power came from a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre, 16-valve inline-four producing 133 hp at 6,500 rpm and 119 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm. A five-speed manual transmission sent power to the front wheels. With a top speed of 130 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 7.5 seconds, the Satria 1.8 delivered brisk performance for a compact hatchback. Its three-door body, five-seat cabin, and 8.5–37.9 cubic feet of luggage capacity made it versatile enough for everyday driving while retaining a distinctly sporty character.
