The Stonic’s compact dimensions gave Kia room to explore a more urban interpretation of the SUV, and the 1.6 CRDi suited buyers who wanted that crossover shape without giving up diesel efficiency. Rather than making the Stonic feel oversized, Kia kept the footprint manageable while giving the cabin the elevated seating and practical five-door layout expected from a small SUV. The diesel engine added a different kind of appeal, relying on strong low-rev torque to make everyday traffic and longer journeys less demanding.
For 2017–2026, the Stonic 1.6 CRDi uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel developing 108 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission sends power to the front wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 10.9 seconds and top speed reaching 112 mph. The torque-rich engine gives this small crossover a relaxed character, particularly when carrying passengers or climbing at motorway speeds.
