The 1963–1966 Maserati Mistral Spyder is a particularly elegant expression of the marque’s early grand-touring philosophy, trading the enclosed coupé roof for an open two-seat body while retaining the sophisticated character of the Mistral name. Designed by Pietro Frua, its clean proportions and low stance give it a timeless Italian identity, while the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout reflects the traditional sporting architecture of the period. It is the kind of Maserati that emphasizes style and long-distance character as much as outright speed.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter inline-six producing 235 hp, with a choice of five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmissions. The Spyder reaches 152 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in 6.4 seconds, giving the lightweight open grand tourer convincing performance for its era. With two seats and 14.1 cubic feet of luggage space, it balances its sporting character with useful touring practicality. The combination of Frua styling, six-cylinder power and classic rear-wheel-drive dynamics makes the Mistral Spyder an especially distinctive Maserati.
