The Iso Grifo 300 arrived from a manufacturer better known for combining Italian styling with American mechanical muscle, and that unusual partnership defined the car from the outset. Its sleek body was shaped with the proportions of an Italian grand tourer, while the Chevrolet V8 underneath brought a very different kind of character. Rather than being an exotic built around a complex bespoke engine, the Grifo used proven American power in a sophisticated Italian package. That contrast gave Iso a distinctive place in the high-performance GT world and helped make the early Grifo one of the era’s more intriguing grand tourers.
The 1965–1968 Grifo 300 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.4-liter Chevrolet 327 V8 producing 296 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 7.5 seconds and top speed reaching 140 mph. Its front-mid-engine layout and De Dion rear axle complement the car’s blend of grand-touring comfort and performance.
