The Iso Grifo 7 Litri pushed the Italian-American grand-touring formula into a much more forceful direction. Iso retained the elegant Italian bodywork and sophisticated chassis of the Grifo, but installed Chevrolet’s enormous 427 V8 beneath the long bonnet. The result was a GT with the visual restraint of an Italian coupe and the unmistakable character of big-block American muscle. Its rarity and combination of refined styling with massive displacement made the 7 Litri one of the most memorable expressions of Iso’s approach to high-performance road cars.
The 1968–1970 Grifo 7 Litri uses a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter Chevrolet 427 V8 producing 395 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 6.1 seconds and top speed reaching 162 mph. The front-mid-engine layout and De Dion rear axle complement its grand-touring character while handling the substantial V8 output.
