The Longchamp GTS/E gave De Tomaso’s understated grand tourer a sharper visual identity. The Series II car adopted a more assertive appearance, with flared wheel arches, distinctive round headlights and additional aerodynamic detailing that separated it from the earlier Longchamp. Yet the underlying idea remained that of a fast, comfortable 2+2 rather than a stripped-down sports car. That contrast is what makes the GTS/E interesting: substantial presence without abandoning the Longchamp’s grand-touring character.
From 1983–1986, the range-topping version was powered by a 5.8-liter Ford V8 developing 296 hp. Its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and five-speed manual transmission gave the large coupe a traditional mechanical feel, while a 152-mph top speed put it firmly into high-performance territory. With production of the Longchamp remaining extremely limited, the GTS/E occupies a particularly obscure corner of De Tomaso history. It is less famous than the Pantera, but its rarity and unusual blend of luxury-coupe proportions and V8 muscle make it one of the marque’s more intriguing creations.
