The Longchamp marked a different side of De Tomaso. Instead of the compact, mid-engine aggression of the Pantera, it was conceived as a more relaxed grand tourer, with a long, elegant coupe body and room for four. Its restrained shape came from Ghia, giving the car a sophisticated presence that suited long-distance cruising rather than outright exotic theatrics. Yet beneath that polished exterior sat a large Ford V8, preserving the unmistakable mechanical character of the marque.
For 1973–1980, the Longchamp offered a fascinating mixture of Italian design and American muscle. The 5.8-liter V8 delivered 267 hp, while rear-wheel drive kept its character firmly rooted in traditional grand-touring performance. Available with either manual or automatic transmission, it could cover long distances with a more mature personality than De Tomaso's sports cars. The Longchamp remains an intriguing reminder that the company was capable of building something more understated without abandoning its distinctive combination of European styling and big-displacement power.
