The V12 2+2 marked a major shift in the character of Jaguar’s E-Type, transforming the famous sports car into a more substantial grand tourer without abandoning its dramatic proportions. The extended cabin provided room for rear passengers, while the enormous V12 gave the Series 3 a smoother and more effortless character than the earlier six-cylinder cars. Its broad nose and longer body also distinguished it visually, creating an E-Type that felt increasingly suited to high-speed touring as well as spirited driving.
For 1971–1975, the V12 2+2 uses a naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V12 producing 314 hp and 349 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 6.8 seconds and top speed reaching 135 mph. The front-engine layout and 2+2 seating give this E-Type a distinctive combination of V12 performance and grand-touring practicality.
