The Longchamp GTS brought a distinctly sporting edge to De Tomaso’s grand-touring range without abandoning the spacious, elegant character of the coupe. Its broad proportions and understated Italian styling concealed a large American V8, creating the sort of visual restraint that made the car more interesting the closer you looked. Unlike the mid-engine Pantera, the GTS placed its engine at the front, giving it a more traditional grand-tourer layout.
During 1980–1989, the GTS used a 5.8-liter Ford V8 producing 286 hp, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. That was enough to give this substantial 2+2 a claimed 149-mph top speed, but outright pace was only part of its appeal. The car offered a more relaxed interpretation of De Tomaso’s performance philosophy, blending long-distance comfort with the sound and character of a large-displacement V8. Its rarity today makes it an especially overlooked chapter in the company’s history.
