The 1991–1992 Alfa Romeo 33 Sport Wagon Boxer 16v brought genuine sporting character to the practical side of the 33 range. Its naturally aspirated 1.7-liter boxer-four and 16-valve head gave the five-door estate a stronger performance focus than the more conventional engines offered in the Sport Wagon.

With front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission, it could reach 100 km/h in around 8.5 seconds, making it surprisingly quick for a compact estate of its period. The combination of Alfa Romeo’s unusual flat-four layout, practical wagon body and relatively compact dimensions is what makes this version particularly interesting today.
