1991–1993 Austin Maestro 1.3 LX Specs & Performance

The Maestro 1.3 LX was designed around simplicity, economy and everyday usability rather than outright performance. Its 1.3-liter naturally aspirated inline-four produced 68 hp and 75 lb-ft, sending power through a four-speed manual transmission to the front wheels. With a 97 mph top speed and 12.1-second 0–60 mph time, its performance was modest, but the lightweight 2,083-pound body helped make the car easy to live with.

The 1991–1993 model retained the Maestro’s practical five-door hatchback formula, with seating for five and 10.6 ft³ of luggage space. MacPherson struts up front, trailing-arm rear suspension, front disc brakes and rear drums kept the chassis uncomplicated, while the carbureted engine and 13.2-gallon fuel tank suited economical daily driving. It was a straightforward example of the practical British family hatchback before the segment became increasingly sophisticated.
