1991–1993 Austin Maestro 1.6 LX Specs & Performance

The Maestro 1.6 LX represents the more conventional side of Austin’s compact hatchback range, using a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter inline-four with a carburetor and a five-speed manual gearbox. Its 85 hp and 97 lb-ft are modest by modern standards, but the front-wheel-drive layout and relatively low 2,150-pound curb weight gave it enough pace for everyday driving, with a 104 mph top speed and 10.2-second 0–60 mph time.

For the 1991–1993 model, practicality remained central to the Maestro’s appeal. Its five-door body accommodated five occupants and provided 10.6 ft³ of luggage space, while MacPherson struts at the front and trailing-arm rear suspension kept the chassis mechanically straightforward. Disc front brakes, rear drums and a 13.2-gallon fuel tank completed a sensible package aimed more at affordable family transportation than outright performance.
