Built for buyers who wanted straightforward transport rather than outright speed, the Maestro Clubman D, DLX used a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter diesel inline-four producing 59 hp and 89 lb-ft. The front-wheel-drive hatchback paired that engine with a five-speed manual transmission and reached 93 mph, with a 15.5-second 0–60 mph time. Its modest performance was balanced by a practical layout designed around everyday family use.

The 1991–1993 model retained the Maestro’s familiar five-door shape, offering five seats and 10.6 ft³ of luggage space.
