The 1992–1996 Alpina 8 Series B12 5.7 Coupé represents one of the most exclusive interpretations of BMW's E31 grand tourer. Based on the formidable 850 CSi, ALPINA transformed its 5.6-liter V12 into a 5.7-liter unit, revising the intake, crankshaft, camshafts and exhaust system to produce 410 hp and 570 Nm. The result was a remarkably fast grand tourer, with a six-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels and a claimed top speed of more than 300 km/h.

Its rarity is just as important to the B12 5.7's identity as its performance. Only 57 examples were built, making it one of the rarest ALPINA models of the era. Subtle chassis changes, larger 18-inch wheels and the distinctive carbon-fiber hood with its NACA duct gave it a character of its own without compromising the elegant E31 design.
