1990–1994 Alpina 8 Series B12 5.0 Coupé Specs & Performance

The 1990–1994 Alpina 8 Series B12 5.0 Coupé was ALPINA's refined answer to the BMW 850i, turning the E31's imposing grand-tourer character into something more focused without sacrificing its effortless cruising ability. Its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V12 received ALPINA-specific engine revisions and produced 350 hp and 470 Nm, while a specially calibrated four-speed automatic transmission delivered that power to the rear wheels. ALPINA also sharpened the chassis with shorter, stiffer springs and gas-pressure dampers, giving the large coupé a more purposeful character.

The B12 5.0 remained deliberately understated, with subtle exterior changes, distinctive 18-inch ALPINA wheels and a bespoke interior separating it from the standard 8 Series. Its ability to reach 100 km/h in around 6.8 seconds and exceed 280 km/h made it seriously quick for its era, but its appeal was never simply about outright speed. With only 97 examples produced, the B12 5.0 combines rare ALPINA exclusivity with the smoothness, presence and long-distance character that made the E31 such an important grand tourer.
