The Marcos Mantara 400 Coupé combines the marque’s distinctive low-slung styling with a muscular V8 and a traditional rear-wheel-drive chassis. The 1992–1999 model sits firmly in the British sports-coupe tradition, using a front-mounted engine, two-seat cabin, and five-speed manual transmission. Its relatively compact dimensions and low production volume give it a character that feels very different from mainstream performance cars of the same period, while the conventional mechanical layout keeps the driving experience direct.
A naturally aspirated 3.9-liter V8 produces 190 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque, giving the Mantara 400 a 135-mph top speed and 6.2-second 0–60 mph acceleration. At 2,227 lb, the car makes effective use of its modest output, while MacPherson-strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension provide the chassis foundation. Vented front discs and solid rear discs handle braking duties, and the 150-liter luggage capacity adds a useful measure of practicality to this unusual two-seat British coupé.
