MSRP:$6,000 – $9,000
The 2.0 16v was a late evolution of Kia’s first Sportage, retaining the squared-off shape and traditional 4x4 layout that defined the original generation. Its five-door body made it a more practical proposition than the soft-top, while the updated 16-valve engine brought a modest improvement in efficiency and everyday refinement. This was still an old-school compact SUV, though: upright, mechanically straightforward and built around useful traction rather than the road-focused character that would later dominate the crossover market.
For 2002–2003, the Sportage 2.0 16v uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 116 hp and 122 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic works with four-wheel drive, giving the SUV a 14.2-second 0–60 mph time and 107-mph top speed. The modest output suits its utility-focused character, while the 4WD system preserves the rugged mechanical identity of the first-generation Sportage.
