MSRP:$6,500 – $10,000
The diesel-powered Tucson was an interesting alternative within Hyundai’s early compact-SUV lineup, especially with four-wheel drive added to its practical five-door shape. Instead of chasing sporty performance, this version was built around useful torque, relaxed progress, and extra traction when conditions demanded it. The combination gave the Tucson a more purposeful character on difficult roads while retaining the approachable proportions and family-friendly layout that defined Hyundai’s first-generation SUV. For 2005–2006, the CRDi 4WD sat neatly between ordinary road-going crossovers and larger, heavier SUVs.
Its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four produces 111 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, with peak torque arriving at 1,800 rpm. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels. The 104-mph top speed reflects the Tucson’s practical mission, while the diesel’s torque and four-wheel-drive system give it the qualities that matter more when carrying passengers or dealing with poorer road surfaces.
