The first-generation Actyon brought a distinctive shape to SsangYong's SUV range, but its engineering was more conventional than its unusual styling suggested. Beneath the sharply sculpted body sat a longitudinally mounted diesel engine, a rear-wheel-drive layout and a chassis combining double-wishbone front suspension with a multi-link rear arrangement. This configuration gave the Actyon 2.0 a traditional mechanical character, distinguishing it from many compact SUVs that relied on transverse engines and front-wheel-drive platforms.
For 2006–2007, its 1,998 cc turbo-diesel develops a listed 143 hp and 310 Nm of torque, with peak pulling power available from 1,800 rpm. Buyers could choose a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, while the 75-litre fuel tank provided useful touring capacity. Its five-seat cabin and 661-litre standard luggage compartment also made it practical beyond its distinctive appearance.
