The first-generation Tucson arrived when Hyundai was expanding its SUV range with a compact model aimed at everyday versatility rather than serious off-road work. The 2.7 V6 version gave the Tucson a stronger character, pairing its practical five-door body with a smooth naturally aspirated engine and an on-demand four-wheel-drive system. For 2005–2010, this configuration offered a useful middle ground between a conventional family vehicle and a more capable all-weather SUV, with a straightforward mechanical layout that suited everyday driving.
The Tucson 2.7 V6 4WD uses a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter V6 producing 173 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission sends power through the on-demand 4WD system, which can use a selectable lock for a 50:50 front-to-rear torque split. That combination gives the compact SUV a relaxed powertrain and useful traction without turning it into a dedicated off-road machine.
