The first-generation Tucson was designed around straightforward SUV practicality, and the 2.0 4WD version added extra traction without moving away from that everyday mission. Its upright shape, five-door layout, and relatively simple naturally aspirated engine gave it a familiar character at a time when compact SUVs were becoming increasingly common. Rather than presenting itself as a rugged specialist, this Tucson offered a sensible blend of family usability and four-wheel-drive capability, making it well suited to drivers who wanted added traction without stepping into a larger SUV.
For 2005–2010, the Tucson 2.0 4WD uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four producing 139 hp and 136 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power through the four-wheel-drive system, while the SUV reaches 60 mph in 10.9 seconds. The setup favors predictable everyday performance and useful traction rather than outright speed.
