By the end of the third-generation Tucson’s life, Hyundai had turned the compact SUV into a more polished and versatile family vehicle, but the 1.6 T-GDi kept some emphasis on responsive performance. The turbocharged petrol engine gave the otherwise practical Tucson a quicker, more energetic feel, while front-wheel drive kept the configuration suited to everyday road use. Its facelifted design and familiar five-door practicality made this version an easy fit for drivers who wanted SUV versatility without moving to a larger or heavier vehicle.
For 2020–2021, the Tucson 1.6 T-GDi 177 uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four producing 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission drives the front wheels, and 0–60 mph takes 8.9 seconds. The combination of a compact turbo engine and FWD gives this Tucson a useful balance between everyday efficiency and brisk road performance.
