The diesel Tucson brought a more relaxed character to Hyundai’s first-generation compact SUV, with its turbocharged engine suited to drivers who valued low-revving pulling power and economical cruising. The 2WD configuration kept the formula straightforward by sending power only to the front wheels, avoiding the added complexity of the four-wheel-drive system. For 2005–2006, the Tucson 2.0 CRDi 2WD offered a practical alternative to the gasoline versions, combining a familiar five-door SUV shape with the useful characteristics of a small diesel.
Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing 111 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels, while peak torque arrives at 1,800 rpm. The 12.7-second 0–60 mph time reflects its emphasis on steady everyday performance rather than speed, with the diesel engine better suited to relaxed commuting and longer-distance driving.
