The first-generation Tucson was Hyundai’s move into the compact SUV market, and the 2.0 2WD version focused on keeping that formula simple and accessible. Rather than adding the extra hardware of four-wheel drive, this configuration used front-wheel drive to deliver a lighter, straightforward everyday SUV. Its upright five-door body, practical cabin, and conventional naturally aspirated engine gave it the character of a family-oriented crossover at a time when compact SUVs were becoming increasingly popular.
For 2005–2010, the Tucson 2.0 2WD uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four producing 139 hp and 136 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power to the front wheels, while the engine reaches peak power at 6,000 rpm. With a 10.1-second 0–60 mph time, it prioritizes predictable everyday performance rather than outright speed, fitting the Tucson’s practical role.
