The 1.7 CRDi Blue 2WD gave the third-generation Tucson a distinctly European-style diesel character, prioritizing efficient cruising and effortless everyday usability over outright performance. Its front-wheel-drive layout kept the SUV focused on paved roads, while the compact diesel delivered its strongest response well below the top of the rev range. For 2016–2020, this version represented the Tucson as a practical long-distance companion: roomy enough for family use, economical by SUV standards, and powered by an engine suited to steady road work.
A turbocharged 1.7-liter inline-four produces 139 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque, with peak torque arriving at 1,750 rpm. The seven-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels, and the Tucson reaches 115 mph. The low-revving torque output is the defining mechanical feature here, giving the SUV relaxed acceleration and a useful sense of flexibility without relying on a larger diesel engine.
