The diesel-powered Tucson took a more useful long-distance approach to Hyundai’s compact SUV formula, and the VGT-equipped 4WD version added extra traction to that package. Its five-door body and conventional cabin kept it firmly focused on family practicality, while the turbo-diesel engine gave the SUV a stronger low-speed character than the gasoline models. For 2006–2010, the Tucson 2.0 CRDi VGT 4WD represented a practical combination of diesel efficiency, useful torque, and four-wheel-drive capability without the bulk of a larger SUV.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing 138 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission sends power to all four wheels, with peak torque available at 1,800 rpm. The 11.6-second 0–60 mph time reflects its practical rather than sporty purpose, while the diesel’s strong torque output suits everyday driving, loaded trips, and changing road conditions.
