Few British sports cars of its era were as distinctive as the Marcos Mantula, and the 1986–1992 3.5 V8 EFI Coupé continued that tradition with a compact, low-slung design and straightforward mechanical layout. The two-seat coupé places its naturally aspirated V8 at the front and drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Its unusual proportions and relatively light construction give it a character quite different from larger contemporary GTs, while the traditional chassis keeps the driving experience firmly mechanical.
The 3.5-liter Rover V8 produces 190 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque, enough for a 142-mph top speed and 5.4-second 0–60 mph acceleration. At 2,028 lb, the Mantula benefits considerably from its low weight, while double-wishbone suspension at both ends provides a more sophisticated chassis arrangement than its period styling might suggest. Vented front discs and rear drums complete the braking system, preserving the simple but purposeful engineering that defines this uncommon Marcos coupé.
