Open-air driving gives the Marcos Mantula a different character from its coupé counterparts, and the 1990–1992 Mantula 3.9 V8 Spyder combines that roadster layout with the larger Rover V8. Its long, low proportions, two-seat cabin, front-mounted engine, and rear-wheel-drive configuration create a distinctly traditional British sports-car package. Rather than pursuing refinement through complexity, the Spyder relies on a lightweight structure and conventional mechanical hardware to deliver a direct driving experience.
The naturally aspirated 3.9-liter V8 produces 195 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque, working through a five-speed manual transmission. Weighing 2,138 lb, the Spyder reaches 143 mph and takes 5.4 seconds to reach 60 mph. Double-wishbone suspension is fitted at both ends, while vented front discs and solid rear discs provide braking control. With its compact footprint and 120-liter luggage capacity, the Mantula 3.9 V8 Spyder combines genuine V8 performance with the distinctive proportions and open-air character of a low-volume British roadster.
