The TVR Chimaera 500 is a British sports convertible that combines elegant open-top proportions with the character of a large-capacity V8. Its long bonnet, low stance and flowing bodywork give it a purposeful appearance, while the folding soft top creates an engaging open-air driving experience. The two-seat cabin keeps the focus on the driver, and its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout preserves a traditional sports-car configuration. Double-wishbone suspension at both ends provides a performance-oriented foundation for this lightweight roadster.
Produced from 1999–2003, the Chimaera 500 uses a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 gasoline engine with an OHV valvetrain, 16 valves and multi-point fuel injection. It produces 316 hp at 5,500 rpm and 320 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Power is delivered to the rear wheels, enabling a 0–60 mph time of 4.0 seconds and a 167 mph top speed. With seating for two and 10.9 cubic feet of luggage capacity, it combines serious performance with the appeal of open-air motoring.
