The 1993–1997 Alfa Romeo 164 Super TD brought turbocharged diesel efficiency to Alfa Romeo's executive-sedan range, using a 2.5-liter inline-four that produces 123 hp and 212 lb-ft of torque. Power reaches the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, with the Super TD capable of 126 mph and a 10.5-second 0–60 mph time. Its OHV eight-valve engine uses indirect diesel injection and a transverse front-engine layout, giving the sedan the strong low-speed torque expected from a period turbo-diesel.
