The MG F 1.8i brought MG back into the lightweight sports-roadster market with a compact design and a mid-engine layout that set it apart from conventional front-engined convertibles. Its low stance, two-seat cabin and open-top body focused on driver involvement, while the rear-mid engine placement helped create a balanced foundation for winding roads. Double-wishbone suspension at both ends further supported its sporting character, giving the MG F a distinctly British approach to accessible, engaging motoring.
The 1995–2002 MG F / TF 1.8i uses a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter inline-four producing 118 hp and 122 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 8.5 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 8.8 seconds. Top speed reaches 120 mph, while its 2,337-pound curb weight helps deliver nimble handling and an engaging open-air driving experience.
